Hi, I'm looking for a TV box to play movies from disk, these are must-have specs for me:
-
USB 3.0 with HDD support up to 5TB in size and NTFS support
-
Can play videos with very high bitrates smoothly
-
1080p HEVC MKV support
-
Video player with ability to choose from different audio & subtitile tracks, or even better a possibility to install MXPlayer with codec pack
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
USB 3.0 is not needed to even stream 4K HDR Bluray Rips over USB. USB2 on any media player is more than sufficient.
USB 3.0 however will be faster if you want to save content from a USB 3.0 PC on to the HDD.
Honestly if it were me and I did not need Android TV Apps I would buy a dedicated, well sorted Kodi media player.
That being the Plug n Play Vero 4K+
That will literally handle anything you throw at it. Being Linux based it has far better connectivity compatibility too vs Android.
Otherwise get a NVIDIA Shield. Do not stuff around with cheap Android TV devices - yes even for 1080p only.
I'm not even sure Oreo on the Android TV - Jetstream or Mi Boxes even support NTFS any more.
There has been lots of issues on a bunch of Oreo Android TV platforms with NTFS recently.
The Shield seen to have it sorted.
