Pro Remote - https://consumers.wetek.com/pro-remote/

Pre-orders are only open for the EU at the moment, but should open up worldwide soon. Pre-orders ship out 2019-02-07.

My thought:

  • It's Google certified, so full casting support

  • It's not Netflix certified (not yet at least). Support could come.

  • No dual-booting O/Ss (Ubuntu / LibreELEC)

  • I really like the pro remote. It looks amazing and it's reasonably priced (~20 USD). I'm not sure if it uses RF or Bluetooth. Edit: Mouse and keyboard are RF, everything else is IR. Sounds terrible.

  • I didn't find any documentation on the SOC. I read a rumor that it was s905D.

  • The box seems a little pricy for the specs, but it is DDR4 Ram (between €119.00 – €129.90).

  • No documentation on the Zigbee radio. Is it for home automation?

Right there, makes it worth exactly $0.

Looks pretty awesome, stock remote is more than enough for what I use it for. That pro one looks real busy on the front. Hopefully it'll be available in stores eventually!

I wonder what the possibilities are for using that pro remote with other ATV boxes. I'm using a Rii remote with my Shield currently, but using something that is purpose built for ATV would likely be better (for example, voice search would not be as dodgy).

As a streaming box it doesn't look too bad. But as a gaming box without knowing the SoC, and with it have 2gb of RAM, I'm not sure. Plus the 10/100 NIC seems a strange choice. I guess it's about cost. I like the the tuner addin though along with the timeshift. Internal storage doesn't seem like it will be much use for that though.

No American OTA tuner support at launch, though they say it's coming soon.

Wetek mainly supports the European customers with their products. North American customers are an "add-on at a later date" option for their stuff. Keep that in mind.

Also they do have a free 30 day return if you don't like it but you have to pay shipping back to Europe and take it from me, the cheapest option is right around $50 to ship it back.

With IR support for number buttons (I'm looking at you Harmony 350) and coaxial cable input, this looks like a serious device for my parents and their live TV watching.

Daily reminder that Wetek never really cared properly supporting their devices. You can still get a Hub or a Play2 and they have been abandoned on an old android firmware where not even the basic functionality (like channel sorting) or basic apps (like Amazon VOD, Netflix) work.

The Air is just a rebranded Play2 with Android TV, running on an years-old, obsolete SOC. That's why it only has 2GBs of RAM and a 10/100 ethernet port.
