Android 8.0 Oreo update for older sony Tv’s

by daamstaar

I have a Sony Bravia 4k 2015, which is not supported for the new android 8.0 update yet. Will it be supported in the future? Also if I try to download the update on an usb and then update my tv, will it work?

Also for everyone else having an 2015 android tv, look up how to make it significantly faster on youtube because they are so slow at first with all the running background apps.

I don't think our TV's will get more updates, 8.0 is for 2016 TV's or higher. Downloading the update and trying to install manually won't work. The update wasn't designed for our TV's.

Sony just updated their EU website regarding the Oreo update:

https://services.sony.co.uk/support/en/welcome-to-android-oreo?t=Topic6

no mention there regarding the 2015, i dont think those tvs will get the update

I think 8GB RAM is the update roadblock for these older models. As you stated ...'they are so slow at first with all the running background apps'. I think they're already doing some memory optimizations on the 16GB models getting Oreo, and they're still super slow, so the older models would only be worse and not capable of the heavier lifting needed.

You won't be able to craft an update intended for a newer model (models # ending in > E) to work with older models because they likely target different/newer hardware.

Best bet may be to abondon the Sony as the smart device and move to an Android box like the Shield (best imo, but not cheapest Oreo box) or others.

When I first got my Sony TV a few years back I remember reading posts about installing firmware from a usb but I'm sure it has to be specific to your model range.

I've got a XBR-65X930D, which model do you have?

What extra features does the update have though ?

I remember back in ‘15 when everyone on here was shitting on integrated Android TV claiming they’d never get updates. Yeah, since then my TV has gotten EVERY available android update with me not really having to do anything. LOL.
