How to prevent Play Store from updating an App?

by shellbross

I own two MiBoxes and a Shield and use Kodi with centralized mysql database for two users with a shared music/movie list and specific viewing status.

I want to keep it that way and to stay on the current version of Kodi 17.6 on all my devices as it works perfectly that way for my usage.

Is there a way the prevent Play Store for updating the app (by removing the app from Play Store list for instance)? I tried to sideload the app from an ATV apk, but it still appear on Play Store when installed that way...

May I add that I already set manual Update in Play Store option, I want to prevent accidental update if someday I select Update All or if my SO mistakenly try to update the app someday for some reason...

I had similar problems years ago and after one too many DB issues, i switched to emby. I still use kodi front end with embycon plugin and it works the same, keeping everything in sync and i can watch pause continue on a different device etc.

Works much better for my use case at least.

The solution is to protect access to Play Store with either a password or your fingerprint. I use BitDefender for that purpose personally.

Before ive used App Cloner to clone a app so you could have 2 of the same. And the cloned version wasnt connected to play store and didnt get any updates.

Kodi 18 is a fucking disaster. Avoid it at least until a new update.
