Mi Box and Apple TV WiFi problem

by doit4thechippah

So these are in a bedroom tv.. The Mi Box and Apple TV seem to have major problems with connecting to and staying connected to the WiFi in this room.. The reason that this is weird is because on the same TV i bought the cheapest Roku (Roku Express) and have had Zero WiFi issues.. Also same thing with a 2nd generation Fire TV Box that has been connected over here in the past.. Since this is an Android TV sub I will talk mostly about the Mi Box but seem to have same problem with Apple TV.. But bought the Mi Box S last week and ever since connecting I get a “Fair” or “Poor” WiFi connection and now it just wont connect I am wondering if Mi Box and Apple TV run the same kind of WiFi and it being possibly different than Roku that it is giving me all kinds of problems.. Has anyone else run into this kind of problem and what solution have you found to fix these kinds of issues? Thanks for any replies..

Can you do ethernet, do it. If not, I would suggest buying a wifi extender, or a new router. You can also try moving your router a few inches. It could do it.

If you have a router provided by your internet provider it may have a bad range. If you only have one wifi available, and not a 5GHz one to connect to, it may be time to upgrade. I wouldn't buy a wifi extender if your current setup doesn't support 5GHz AC. It is important that you got a router that supports the AC standard as it is much faster. Read some reviews. Don't buy the cheapest router available, but I certainly wouldn't spend $300 either, unless you have a big house.

If you do have a very big house or if you have concrete walls around you you could also look at a MESH setup, but if you live in an apartment/small house and your Wifi works alright now with the exception of Apple TV/Mi box, you probably don't need it.

Have you tried disconnecting the Roku while using the mi box? Sometimes multiple wifi-enabled devices in close proximity will cause interference.

If possible, I'd recommend running a wired connection via Ethernet. An Ethernet-USB cable will run you about $10-15 on Amazon and connection will be faster and more reliable. Otherwise you could try moving your router closer to the mi box or consider a WiFi extender/mesh system.

Do you have your WiFi networks on different ssids? I did that and my network has been solid the last year. The devices don't try to hop around.

You need to move your router somewhere closer or bring ethernet to your TV.

I've had these problems with exact apple tv4 and mi box s. Wifi in my room is not great there is a repeater in hallway but sometimes wifi get stall. I've connected both ethernet and problems gone. Some say some routers can't go along with mi box, maybe thats my and your issue. Do cable if you can.
