Oreo Update on Sony X900F - Still no HDR through native youtube app

by mattalat

Hi there,

Wanted to see if others had experience with the Oreo update and HDR. When I watch a 4k HDR movie (Blade Runner 2049) through the native google play or youtube apps, the HDR badge does not appear. However, when I enable "stats for nerds" via the youtube app, it reports the color space as Bt 2020. This should be HDR right?

If I cast the content via the youtube app on my phone or desktop, the HDR badge DOES appear, so this workaround appears to still work.

Anyone else have a different experience?

I don't get it. I'm pre-oreo on xe9005 and my native youtube app plays HDR. The badge is there when I go Action menu > Sounds and the rest of the TV's UI seems washed up when HDR is active (another indicator).

Android tv youtube app doesn't support hdr. I think alternatives like smartyoutubetv does support hdr.

It should support HDR. Have you updated the Youtube app lately?

One thing to note concerning HDR on youtube on these TVs is that the TV doesn't apply the settings automatically. So you need to adjust the right HDR and color settings for it to display the correct picture
