Mi box support ended ?

by shmox75

Hi everybody, I've bought my mi box few months ago and I just want to know if this product is still supported I mean updates, because I have the damn wake up issue which is not fixed.

Is there an official contact link of xiaomi to answer me because after the release of the mi box s . The mi box support could be dropped which is a customer experience nightmare.

PS: sorry for my bad english :/

Saying that Mi Box support ended is implying that it ever existed in the first place...

There are a lot of haters on here that will trash the mibox but it is a solid piece of equipment. I have been running it since February of 2017 and I've had no problems.

I will concede that it is not the fastest or the best box out there, that is The shield hands down, but if you have realistic expectations of it then you will not be disappointed

For me, I'm running all of my TV apps, Netflix, Vudu, I have a real remote control plugged into it through flirc, running Kodi as a front end for everything, including hdhomerun from my live TV. The PVR server is an old Windows computers that I repurposed and that is doing a majority of the heavy lifting for the live TV part but I rarely have problems. The most infuriating problem I've ever experienced with it is that the Oreo update screwed up the keyboard and even resetting the whole box didn't fix it. But I also have a wireless keyboard and mouse that I'm using with it and it hasn't been a real problem. Just a headache.

My box is part of the beta testing group. They're still working on it, including the wake-up bug. The Beta updates come out with decent frequency too IMHO, every other week or so, which seems reasonable for me.

I also have both the Nvidia Shield (in my office) and Mi box in the bedroom. My only issue with the Minute box is the failure to wake up sometimes and the ugly white volume control background. Both minor issues that I ignore now.

Most of us have 2 boxes and my recommendation is just that, go with the Nvidia where you may use it more and the Mi box in your secondary location. I have to buy another for my basement entertainment room.

I've had the Mi Box since it was launched in late 2016...

The Pinnacle of it's use as a media player was the last release of Marshmallow 6.x Firmware.

Since then this has happened after the Oreo Firmware update:

- 5.1 DD+ Netflix audio dropouts

- wake from sleep problems

- exFAT and NTFS hard drive issues

- visibly worse Netflix video playback stutter

This is just basic stuff that should be reliable no matter what the media player you use.

I also happen to be in the Beta test group for Firmware updates, so lately:

- auto Kodi refresh switching is working if a little buggy due to always resolution switching to 4K even with non 4K content. 1080p TV only users will be fine.

- there was a recent update to fix wake from sleep issues (untested personally yet)

- 5.1 DD+ Netflix still has audio dropouts and the worst video playback stutter out of any media player I've used.

It's really hard currently to recommend it as anything but a cheap, basic 2.0 audio, low bitrate 4K HDR - Wireless streaming device. Get too demanding and the wheels soon fall off. And by demanding I also mean timely bug fixing Firmware updates released to the general public.

You might want to have a read about Xiaomi's abuse of Dolby Audio licensing.

That in itself is grounds for consumer refunds in countries that support it:

mine just got Oreo....so....

Nope, they will still support. When you got the money get Nvidia Shield but think about that: Mi Box - 50-60€ Nvidia Shield - +150€

So you can buy Mi Box, Mi Box s and the next one for the same price. I got a Nvidia Shield TV, after 3 years still get updates.

After a flurry of updates before xmas they do seem to have stopped. Still getting the audio delay when casting from any device, I assume this affects everyone but not many even use this feature. Considering getting a chromecast...

The mibox at one time was the best android box in its price bracket and a great step up from a shitty fire stick but a cpl years later all mine are glitchy and have diff issues. Wondering what the best box in the 50 dollar price bracket is these days. Hmm

The latest beta is decent... Still a few minor issues.. but they should fix it... And release to public... Just a matter of time... My guess is 3-6 months but it would be nice if it was sooner.

I didnt want to make a new thread over this related question: Does anyone know where I can get the latest official / stable (non-beta) firmware for the Mi Box?

geekonamotorcycle

This is why you should not buy these Chinese boxes including the xiaomi box. This happens over and over again and people pretend like it's not a thing or like this time will be different. That particular mibox has had issues since launch.

If you want an Android TV and you want it to work smoothly, the only choice is an Nvidia shield.
