MiBox becomes unresponsive

by Lastb0isct

I have a MiBox that is essentially going unresponsive after 24hrs of no use. I use it occasionally since it's in my bedroom. Essentially the remote can't control the device anymore. Any ideas on how to fix this??

I have smart plugs (Mi Box plugged in it) that switch off when I leave home, and switch on when I get home. Since I set this up, I have now two wonderfully working Mi Boxes

See if you have HDMI-CEC turned on on the Mi Box, it becomes unresponsive if the first setting is turned off.

I ended up disabling CEC and going into Developer Option and enabling the Stay Awake (Screen will never sleep when charging).

I also had to train myself to stop pressing the power button on the MiBox remote, because that puts it to sleep as well, and then sometimes it becomes unresponsive.

In the case of a MiBox, it is essentially always charging because it's plugged in all the time.

What I have noticed is the the MiBox seems to have trouble recognizing the BT remote when it goes to sleep for a long time.

I do sometimes have to press buttons on the remote for up to 10 seconds if I leave the MiBox unused for extended periods of time, how long I'm not sure days or weeks maybe..

The MiBox is my secondary device to play local media that my Roku cannot play. Which are usually/mostly AVI files. The MiBox will play them, but the VLC interface isn't as friendly as the Roku and the Roku remote also has the headphone jack which comes in handy when wanting to watch TV when others are sleeping...

To recap, I ended up disabling the CEC functions, and set it to never sleep when it is plugged in...

I've also heard/read that if you use a IR remote the MiBox has no issues. Most people seem to be really happy with Harmony remotes, with the 650 being the one I've seen mentioned the most...

I hope that you found this info to be helpful...

Best of luck in getting your MiBox to stop ignoring the remote after it's been put to sleep (turned off).

I’ve been plagued with instability issues since a few updates ago. The wake issue is one of them. Sometimes when it wakes it also gets really sluggish until I am forced to reboot. Other times I just get random lock ups. I just did a factory reset and it didn’t help any of the issues. Considering switching to a shield.

Curious does the mi box s suffer the same fate?

Just download the Android TV remote app. Then remove remote from settings and restart the remote

Check how much storage you have left in Settings.

Really Low storage will soon freeze up Android TV devices unless Google have fixed such issues.

Make sure you don't have all of your storage used up or close to it.

Since the latest firmware update this has been a common complaint. Some people find that power cycling is the only way to fix it but then the problem comes back later. We might have to wait for another update that squashes this bug.

Press the power button on the remote, wait 5-6 seconds, then press it again. Mine turns on after that. Saw someone comment about it, seems to work.
