I use Shield TV + Home and, yes, it works, but I'm often times wondering why I don't just pick up a Chromecast to use when my current want is for the YouTube TV app on Shield. It's great when using the Shield Remote to control YouTube TV. (The path for video avoids Chromecast when using the remote). But when you issue a voice command then Nvidia's Chromecast is in the picture and things change and it can be quite annoying when attempting to use voice commands. First off, the voice commands will not bring up any of the YouTube TV's DVR features. At this time you can't choose between various episodes for a TV show although you can tell it to watch the last episode. On a Saturday I can ask it to play Colbert and it will bring up the last episode but I can't direct it to play last Wednesday's show. Nvidia brought out a major Chromecast built-in update, needed features but not enough for a smooth operation. I was praying they would offer me Chromecast Caption options. When I say "play NBC Nightly News from YouTube TV on Shield" I can turn captions on and off but I'm stuck with the normal font size on a 65" screen. That font size covers WAY too much real estate. (When I go to the settings in the Google Home app and bring up the Shield settings, I am presented with limited choices.) (And Google Photos as a screensaver STILL doesn't work.) But if I begin playing my show with the remote then I have full control. The problem here is the way Nvidia seems to have incorporated only a subset of Chomecast. I'll keep the Shield for Kodi use but screw it, I'm getting off my butt right now and go to Best Buy for a 4K Chromecast. OK, I'm getting it all out but I need to vent. Finally, Shield, as controlled by Harmony Hub is just as sketchy but in its own way. OK, I'm off to Best Buy. Good Luck.
PS: Who do I hold accountable for all this? Google! Their zeal to incorporate Chromecast built-in into everything from Shield to my toilet lid, and not hold these various manufacturer's feet to the fire to do it right is the bane of my technical woes. Your luck may vary ...and pray for updates.
They work. I have a Sony Android TV and I can ask my Google home minis things like "hey Google, watch [team that is playing] game".
