Android™ 8.0 Oreo™ automatic update temporarily suspended – 13th February 2019

by Coouge

When releasing firmware updates, Sony always keeps a close eye on the roll-out to ensure our customers enjoy a smooth and satisfying experience.

We identified that our latest Android 8.0 Oreo update can occasionally cause a no sound symptom from certain Sound Bars, A/V Receivers or Home Theater Systems if the TV has been on standby for a long period of time. Unfortunately, due to this potential connectivity issue which we perceive as an inconvenience for some of our customers, we’ve decided to postpone the Android 8.0 Oreo automatic firmware update (v6.5830).

For customers that have downloaded the update and are currently unable to hear sound—via your home audio device—please visit the following article for our recommended workarounds .

However, for customers that do not own a Sound Bar, A/V Receiver or Home Theater System and would like to experience the new features and functionalities on offer, the update is still available to download manually on the support site.

Note: If you are using one of the home audio devices mentioned above, we strongly recommend that you wait for the next update, which will rectify this potential issue.

Our engineers are diligently investigating the root cause at this moment, and a new firmware will be released in the near future to resolve this anomaly. To stay informed, please regularly visit or bookmark this page.

We thank you for your understanding and apologise for any inconvenience caused.

What the heck? It has many issues and there's no way to rollback from the previous version?

The only thing I've learned since buying a Sony Android TV is I'll never be buying another absolute garbage.

This happens almost every time for me with my Sony TV and Sony receiver connected via arc. Powering the Sony receiver off and back on forces the audio to switch back to the TV and then back to the receiver, but still frustrating.

Just wanted to throw it out there:

I'm doing well with my Sony Android TV. I updated it manually and it even started running faster and more smooth than before.

I also have a Sony soundbar connected through ARC jand it controls well and sounds great.

I've easily controlled the TV through a Google home and the TV connects to my wi-fi no problem. If it disconnects, it reconnects just fine, though I've occasionally (maybe 3 times in 1 year) had to manually reconnect. I run it on 5Ghz.

The only real issue I have had was it would sometimes move super slow or freeze. I assumed it was an issue with memory. To solve I just hard reset the TV. It usually clears the memory and things work fine. Holding down the power button on the remote does the trick. I've only had to do this like 3 times though in a year. It's always good to hard reset electronics that go in stand-by. Hitting the power button puts it in stand-by but it doesn't exactly turn it off. When you hold it, it does power completely down.

Overall, I've had a wonderful experience (I have the 800E Model) and I would definitely recommend Sony Android TVs based on quality and user experience. I know others have had issues, so I wanted to provide a positive light.

This wasn't new to 8.0, I've had this issue since I purchased my tv. Glad they're fixing it at least.

A good tip, android tv are really slow so I looked up a video on youtube how to make it faster. You need to dele and uninstall all running apps in the background, just keep essential apps and it will go much faster.

How about also adding back home double tap for recents. Like how the hell did they overlook that
