Is the android tv good fit for playing streaming media via web browser?

by o82

Where I live Netflix is not a thing and most popular streaming services doesn’t have apps, and allow only streaming via web browsers Would android tv box be a good choice then? I read that they don’t really have browsers integrated.

I tried Mi box in the past but it was quite laggy. Looking on nvidia shield now. What would be your advice?

The Puffin Browser is great for the Android TV OS since it does not require the use of a mouse.

My experience has been streaming via apps. I would like to know which websites you use to stream.

Thanks.

N.B:

You can't go wrong with the Nvidia Shield. Transitioned from the Mibox to the Shield December 2018. Never looked back!

Use the Firefox browser

What are you trying to stream vie a web browser? Most things you can stream via web have apps, or another way of accessing it.

Edit: missed the part about Netflix not being a thing where you live. If nothing actually has an appointment there, I would just get a laptop. Something cheap that will be easier to use than Android TV.

Why would you want to stream from a browser? For everything there is an app

If you are used to watch via streaming sites, you'll have a great time with Android TV since there are several apps that scrape those streaming sites and display everything in. Netflix-like style. At /r/ttvreborn/ you can check out all the different apps. I prefer TVzion since it's developed with Android TV in mind, and the dev is very active and responsive in his own sub. Other popular app are cyberflix, apolloTV and CimemaHD. Just take a look around and test what works best for you!

Surely someone you knows has a home Dungeon where you can go for a bit of S&M torture ? D)

Be more pleasurable than trying to use a Web browser on ANY Android device.

Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K has Silk browser with accelerated video playback (Firefox is also available). It pretty much has everything a cord cutter enthusiast needs such as Kodi, browser with accelerated video playback, Acestream, official DRM apps, unofficial apps, etc.

The shield will do whatever the mibox was capable of doing, but without shitting itself. If the mibox could technically stream what you needed then the shield will also do it, but like I said, it wont shit itself.

Morpheus TV app has everything I need. No cost. There's a version for all platforms.

Could you not just get a vpn to a country where Netflix etc is a thing?
