I just updated my Bravia TV to Oreo and...

I had to end up doing a forced factory reset!

It went through the update no problem; but when it rebooted it just went to a black screen. It started working after that.

Is it commonplace for Sony TV updates to 'break' the TV?

For me sonys track record has been awful. I've had to factory reset my tv about 3 times in 4 years of ownership. I had one update that gave me a blinking red light which is a hardware fault a month or two out of sonys pathetic 1 year warranty. Luckily it seemed to fix itself.

Honestly you are better getting a shield or something else rather than use Sony's lagfest and it's full of spyware (samba)

I upgraded my brand new Bravia X800E using a usb stick. It worked for two days and then just up and died. No response, no screen. Could not even do a factory reset. All that happened was the front LED was on continually in a green color. Sony went ahead and replaced the TV for me. Since the X800E is OOS they gave me an X900F. It updated upon initial setup and has been working so far.

Could the most recent updates cause my TV to turn completely off instead of going to sleep? It's hit or miss, sometimes it'll turn on normally from whatever screen I left it on, sometimes it turns on as if it lost power.
