Because I see no threads about this incredibly annoying issue.
I have to unplug this pos every day if I want to listen to music or watch something without micropauses

Turn on the first HDMI-CEC setting and it fixes it.
There still apps running in the backgrounds
Same thing was happening to me before I went back to my Chromecast. I held down the power button to do a reset rather than unplugging the device. I like the other suggestion though of enabling the developer option to keep it from sleeping.
Yeah even my Shield kinda does that while it stutters more and more with Netflix while playback.
Seems like a restart is so good for these devices.

My SO leaves it on 24/7 & has since she got it at launch.. never had an issue on Oreo.
Same thing happens for me too.
I have not noticed this issue on Ver 2 of the box, the one I got around last thanksgiving. I have CEC on TV and the box.
When i turn it on from standby, it switches on the TV and works fine. See if other CEC devices are connected to the TV and see if removing them helps.
What version of Android are you running?
Let it be a lesson to you about Cheap Chinese boxes. Shield TVs are cheap now. Go grab one.
Lots of down votes. You guys really want to pretend those things are better than they are at basic tasks huh? What if I told you that it's not normal to have to go into developer options and toggle things just to make it work right?
Enable developer options.
Stay awake -- on
Don't keep activities -- on
Bacground process limit -- no background processes
You may have to set some or all of these Everytime you reboot the box.. but when you put the box to sleep And wake it up.. it won't be sluggish so no reason to reboot..
It has worked for me with no noticable side effects.
I Also turned "show all anrs" on..
Because of this I was able to notice Google text to speech app was becoming unresponsive sometimes. I went into apps and disabled this system app. Then force stopped it.
