Nvidia shield PROBLEMS

by raders79

I'm at the end of my tether.... Everything I stream on my shield buffers really bad. I unplug everything and plug it into my fire TV box which works flawlessly. What am I missing? Is there some setting I need to change or do I just sell the bloody shield?

PLEASE HELP

Packet loss? Try pinging IP of the Shield while it is buffering.

Bad Ethernet cable? Try replacing it.

Bad switch? Try replacing it.

Does wifi work better? If so, see above.

Does Kodi or YouTube work better than Plex? Could be the version of the Plex client.

I have both a 2015 Shield and a 2017 Shield. Both are on Ethernet. I switched to Ethernet for streaming 4k movies. It was the only way they would work.

Its an issue with PLEX, been talked about on the Nvidia forums, a fix will be coming no time frame yet. In the meantime I think the current work around is to use the Plex for Kodi addon.

Are you connected through WiFi or Ethernet?

PalebloodSky

I've never had a buffering issue with Mi Box or Shield TV you need to be more detailed if you want help though.

Stream from what?

This is possibly interference from another device if you are using WiFi. I had a similar issue when connecting my BT headphones to my TV. Everytime I connected the Shield started struggling. The remote wouldn't work, the WiFi was banjaxed. Since then I've upgraded to a gigabit router and Cat6, attached a BT transmitter to my TV and I haven't had any issues since. I won't use WiFi for anything other that Phones now.

I've replaced the Ethernet cable today with no joy. I'll try the other options you've given me. Thank you

I never thought to try Chromecast. I've tried IPTV smarters and an APK that I've linked to my real debrid account

raders79

Cool... I'll give that a whirl

TheManDapperDan

what speeds are you getting on speedtest

16gb or 500gb pro?

Look into fixing Plex.

Works fine on my Shield but there's a lot of variables with Plex to sort out first.

They do get dusty. Teardown the Shield, and clean any dust in it. Make sure you have thermal paste.

What is the source of the content? Local files? Pirated online content?

Thanks for all of the comments/suggestions. I've sorted it somehow. I've tried a few different things and it seems to be working fine now.

Thanks again
