I have had the original Mi Box for a couple years and have no issues with it. Even after the Oreo update it still works fine.
Unhappy people are the loudest
Then again getting a Mibox is like playing Russian roulette. You may get a good one and never have issues and be quite content with it. But if you get a bad one you're in for a hellride. So good luck and may the odds be ever in your favour.
You need to detail EXACTLY what sort of audio and video and Apps requirements you actually need.
eg. some only need 2.0 audio and for that the Mi Box is fine, but for others it's complete rubbish with a lot of 5.1 audio bugs. Dolby DD+ 5.1 is a complete mess.
I suggest you read this thread for a general idea:
Shield all day. May all amlogic, mtk, and rkchip devices die
My only gripe is Vudu and movies anywhere still not playing 4k or hdr.
I have had issues with it not waking up, but had that issue prior to the upgrade also.
I own both Mibox (3) and Mibox (4) S . Can't find any serious issues with it. It's the best in the class. All I am saying is that its a value for money product. A proper android tv experience that really works
I had mi box and now use mi box s. Both boxes are complete shit. Sony Android TV experience is much better for video playback. Avoid that box.
I have two. Aside from an audio issue over HDMI to non-standard monitors after an update (which was fixed by patch in about a week), they work flawlessly.
