Xiami mi box S USB/ETHERNET adapter speed

by Jadeko

Hi, this post is a follow up to another i created earlier:

https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidTV/comments/avcn2x/mi_box_s_to_play_4k_remux_over_ethernet_buffer/

I had trouble playing 4k movies over the ethernet with a UGreen 1000mbps adapter. After some investigation and tests, it turns out the problem came from the adapter capping the connection to ~60mbps DOWN. I'm unsure if this is normal on a USB 2 port considering the theoretical speed is 480mbps.

If any of you use an ethernet adapter, what is your connection speed ? Should i replace my adapter ?

Thx in advance ! :)

EDIT: I didn't even think of trying wifi as i was sure playing 4k movies wifi wasn't even worth trying. And yet ditching the ethernet is a semi-solution. Over wifi i have a local speed of 120 mpbs down and 140 up. Movies still buffers but way less (maybe once every 10min ?). I still think ethernet should be faster if anyone can test there local speed with this adapter it would help thx !

I have the same adapter and I have 0 issues streaming local 4k files over my home network on my mibox s using kodi.

Do you have any usb devices connected to the usb hub part of the adapter?

Iperf3 test shows mi box's 5ghz wifi performans is around 110-120 mbps. You can test your setup with iperf3 for Windows and analiti app for android.

Try it with anothet router. Maybe the mibox and that router have problems.

I recall that the Ugreen adapter is limited by the USB protocol, If it is USB-2 on the device it is connected, then the speeds may not go over 60Mbps. In my case I had the Ugreen connected to a FireStick 4k, and the Wifi speeds on 5G were faster than using the Ugreen on the USB-2 mini port on the stick...so it was fs4k...OTG/usb to ugreen ethernet. I now just use the wifi on the fs4k 5g network and good wifi/router ac-xxxx. If your device supports USB3 maybe faster thru put??
