I finally bit the bullet and ordered a shieldtv

by jaymef

After owning two MiBox's for the past two years I'm finally throwing in the towel and ordering a ShieldTV. The Mibox was a fairly good device at first especially for the price but like many around here know it has been garbage since Orero updates. I have nothing but problems with my boxes, most annoyingly the wake problem. Now yesterday the remote for one of my boxes stopped working properly and the right arrow goes up instead of right so I can't select anything in the menus (even after attempting a factory restore which I had to get to via voice commands).

I really hope the shieldTV will be worth the extra money and I can forget about these little mibox annoyances.

Buy cheap, buy twice.

Hope you enjoy the shield :)

Man I just bought Nvidia Shield and a new 50'' 4k smart TV last wee and I'm super stoke now. Been loving it so far and its a lot faster then the other Android boxes I have in the house.

You won't regret it, Shield TV is the best streaming box on the market.

Matt_txt

You won't regret it mate.

I went from using a Raspberry Pi, to using a Nexus Player, and then eventually just getting the Nvidia Shield.

The Shield is well and truly the best device and if I could go back I would've just gotten it straight away.

I only recommend Shield's now, you definitely get what you pay for!

Crescendo_BLYAT

congrats mate....

enjoy TV box as it should be, CONTINUOUS-FACTORY-RESET free...

I can't imagine factory resetting Mi Box everyday just to make it work properly, just to watch damn movies...

If anyone argue about price point, Amazon's Fire Stick with same price can play movie properly without factory resetting it everyday....

You'll love it!

You made the right choice, welcome to the club.

I have owned the following ...

WDTV Live, AppleTV (2nd Gen), RaspberryPi 1,2,3, FireTV (1st Gen), Nexus Player, MiBox, even a Minix Neo X7 Mini ... Shield clearly is the winner. Kodi installs on AppleTV would break the moment you got an firmware update and barely handled 720p (its an old device). FireTV had serious interlacing issues with my HDHomerun Prime. Raspberry Pis had no apps, just a dedicated Kodi box. Nexus Player was slow when decoding live channels off my HDHR, Mibox was a little better, but updates on those seem to take forever.

I will give props to the Raspberry Pi for having a hardware MPEG2 decoder, which pairs up VERY WELL with a HDHomerun tuner.

My only complaints about the Shield is the touch volume on the remote, its a tad sensitive, easy to hold it and have the volume drop to 50%.

It is. I have 2 Mi Boxes, 2 couple Mecool boxes, and honestly the Shield is nearly damn perfect. Just needed Dolby Vision support. Also for PAL TV it deinterlaces beautifully, which can be a real struggle in most other android boxes.

Definitely my best tech purchase in a good year or two.

I had a MiBox a couple years ago. I really liked it but it just had no power. What is it with media boxes that have no balls?? I went through so many media boxes and it was the same story every time. Laggy and slow.

Anyway, after I dumped the MiBox, I got a Shield TV 2017. FINALLY, a box with grunt and a GUI that doesn't totally suck (Android TV). I do prefer the MiBox remote, but the nVidia remote is not too bad. At least it's RF and not IR like some other boxes. The volume control on the remote is laggy, but there is really no better alternative to the Shield unless an Apple TV would work for you.

Ive had it for 2 week and it's very very good, there is still the odd hang up here and there but overall I think you'll really enjoy it.

Besides the problems you are having with the mi box, is there any other things that made you switch to ShieldTv? I was thinking upgrade before when there were a bunch of sale for the shield but I only watch movies/anime on my mi box so I’m not sure if I really need thr shield.

coinzdude

You are going to love it. You get what you pay for in this space.

Dasbishop

Does Nvidia make the 500gb model or just the 16gb?

emupurgatory

Should have got an apple TV...stupid idiot
