New to Android TV boxes need suggestions

by Iloveenergydrinks

Looking to buy a android box. I would prefer one that offers Pie and at least one major update in the future. Needs to be able to run the following flawlessly.

-Netflix -Kodi -PIA VPN

Shield, Nvidia Shield.

The only box worth getting is the Shield.

The Jetstream 4K Box that Walmart has for $69 has worked flawlessly for me. And, yes, I've owned the Mi. The Shield is top notch. But if all you're gonna do is watch TV, the Jetstream is a much smarter buy.

Nvidia Shield, buy once and be done.

As pointed elsewhere, in order of preference:

  • Nvidia Shield
  • Jetstream
  • Fire TV 4K
  • Mi Box S
  • Mi Box

Now your budget dictates your choice.

There is none better than the Nvidia Shield

Best Nvdia Shield TV by far. For cheap and cheerful Firee TV 4K

Nvidia shield is the way to go

If you buy a cheaper one you'll just end up buying another and another. I know this from experience. Do your future self a favour and just buy the Nvidia Shield. Save yourself the headaches you will inevitably have with cheaper boxes.

I have had a shield TV for a long time now. It's still best android box

I have the Mi Box 3. For simple stuff like Netflix and YouTube it just works never had a problem. Except for maybe the need to restart once a month. (It's always plugged in)

Shield if you can. Jetstream if you can't. MiBox should not be in consideration. It runs on the same hardware as the MiBox but the experience would make you think they're different.

I got a few and use them at secondary TV's. I even gave one to my mom (who is not tech savvy at all) when her Nexus player was showing its age and the only tech support call I've gotten was when the batteries were dying in the remote.

Everyone says the Nvidia Shield and while that's likely true, let's be honest, it's not perfect. It's gotten better, and for the most part it's flawless. But months ago it was not. I recently picked up a JetStream TV as well and while I've only had it for less than a day, it's been running smooth so far.
