Any way of installing the Android TV app on a non authorized device?

by The_Dude_Lebowski88

Before I knew much about set top boxes, I bought a crappy Mygica, which is basically unusable. I have since upgraded to the Mi Box and have 2 of them.

I'm wanting to try set up the Mygica in a spare bedroom, but obviously I'd never wish that experience on anyone. I am trying to find a way to install the Android TV operating system on the Mygica. Does anyone know if this is possible?

I wouldn't bother with it - It's probably not worth your time instead of replacing it with another Mi Box. Unless you have access to the bootloader and all developer options are enabled and theres an image for your exact chipset, you'll have to create a custom ROM.

Depends on the soc like amlogic you can run unofficial Android tv but stuff like casting wont work and I'm unsure if Netflix runs in HD. But it would bring life back into that old device.

It's probably possible but you're basically hoping someone gives enough of a fuck to port a custom ROM over to that device.

Not worth the time.

Spend 50 -60 on a Mi Box and move on.

Not fully but you can install a similar launcher to the one in atv

Thanks for all the responses. I think I've basically come to the conclusion that this thing would make a better frisbee than a media device.

Just stumbled upon this topic. I have a four year old Beelink S82B and I bought the Nova launcher (3 usd IIRC) which supports locking the rotation into landscape mode. It is highly configurable and makes a good TV launcher (it has Android 4.1.1) although you need a wireless keyboard or air mouse to operate it properly.

Maybe if it's rooted I know there is Android TV for x86 but that's for PC's you have to do some googling sorry!
