I’m interested in purchasing boxes. I see on eBay mxpro which has android 7.1 and mx10 which has android 8.0. Is there a large difference in either in regards to performance? I’m just looking to stream...

Those are not android TV boxes thus this sub is not the correct place to post that question.

I would recommend and Android TV box over an Android Box.

The Android TV interface is designed for use with a TV.

Your choices are Shield, MiBox, and Jet Stream. There may be others. The Jet Stream runs Orea 8.1 is usually available at the local Walmart, and runs around $69 or so... The Shield comes in at around $170 and up depending on the options you get...

On the version of Android thing, I would recommend getting the most up to date version of the OS. To avoid or to put off any needed updates/upgrades. When the MiBox went from 6 to 8.0 it was a lot of pain for many owners, don't really know why but it was... Shield seems to have had much better luck with updates/upgrades, and they are much faster to respond and fix issues, but I would certainly hope so, given the price of the device.

Pie (9.0) is out and it seems to be available on some Android boxes, not sure if it has made it to any Android TV devices yet. But if you choose to go Android Box, I would go Pie/9.0 or Oreo 8.1. Get the newest/highest version you can get/find, don't get an older version and plan/hope to upgrade... Looking at the price points of the boxes the makers just don't spent much money or effort to provide updates/upgrades. The OS is upgradeable, but only if the maker actually provides an upgrade.

Well that's only mostly true, if you are a diehard Android user and have the skills, you can "force" an upgrade for many/most devices, but since you are here asking the questions you are asking, I will guess that you will have to wait for upgrades that are provided by the maker...

The Shield is the cadillac of Android TV boxes, and comes with good/great support. The MiBox and MiBox S, not so good, infact all I see are mostly complaints, with a few positive comments sprinkled in among the overwhelming number of complaints. The other box the Jetstream, sold at Walmart, not a bad price, adds an extra USB port and an Micro SD slot when compared to the MiBox S (which is not for sale at Walmart)...

I hope that you found this info to be useful/helpful.

I do wish you the best of luck in finding the right box to meet your needs...
