Upcoming Devices?

by Beat_G33k

Hi Sub,

I'm looking to make the transition to an Android TV. I currently have Chromecast/ built-in devices connected to all the TVs in the house.

The reason i'm looking to transition is to eliminate the need to cast content. It was a nice idea at first but started to get a little cumbersome with guests and when we just wanted to grab the remote and launch an app/ show.

So far I've been reading into the Xiaomi Mi Box S. I have been seeing mixed reviews but it's the only fairly priced device I saw ($49 at Walmart.com )

Does anyone know if any other devices are coming out in the near future?

I've looked into the Nvidia Shield but I can't justify the price to swap out all the TVs in the house. I'm not sure on the other brands I've seen, Xiaomi is the only one that stuck out to me.

I did also look at Roku as an alternative since it does play nice with the Google ecosystem.

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

A good alternative to the mi box I've seen is the Jetstream box, it includes an Ethernet port in the box itself for example. Your options for an official Android TV box are limited to Mi Box, Jetstream, and Nvidia Shield.

I can only recommend the shield. You deserve the best. Don’t let the price put you off. You only live once.

The Channel Master Stream+ is in the official Android universe, but doesn't have Netflix so it isn't listed as an authorized Android box. Google is treating it as such though, with releases of Live Channels targeted for it along with the Shield and mibox. It's priced between the two.

I've owned 2 mi boxes. Don't buy them they're absolute junk. Full of bugs. Just get a shield and be done with it.

I've been quite happy with my shield on the main tv with 4k firesticks on other screens. The 4k runs emby/plex/kodi with no issues and there hasn't been much that I haven't been able to sideload. If you want netflix/prime at high rez, don't buy offbrands as most of them aren't supported.

For TV viewing only, the Jetstream will work great. Same internal specs as the mibox with built in ethernet and hardly any bugs. I have one in the bedroom. For my main tv i have a Shield and wouldn't have anything else. The Shield is 4 years old now and still is the go to, top of the line box.
