A confused potential buyer of Mi Box :c

by RITEYYY

Hey Everyone! I hope you are all doing great.

I was looking to buy a Xiomi Mi Box S. Seeing it's reviews on threads has confused me. Someone recommended me to buy a Mi Box 3 but, unfortunately, it's out of stock on all websites and sellers around me.

So I'm only left with Mi Box S, considering my tight budget I cannot afford Nvidia Sheild. Anyways, my main use will be 1080P Netflix, YouTube and playing videos through my phone using the screen mirroring feature.

Is Mi box S sufficient for my needs?

The bad reviews are not wrong, the device is hugely hit or miss. I would suggest avoiding it entirely. If you must go Android TV, your best bet is the Shield, but if can compromise and don't need the chromecast functionality or Play store, the Fire TV 4k stick is a much better device than the mi box.

I've had the original Mi Box since they started to stilling them at Walmart. We use it almost daily to watch YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, and Plex.

I've used it to mirror my phone screen, but I rarely use that function.

Only issue we have with it is the remote doesn't always wake it up from sleep mode. When that happens, we just tell the Google Home to turn on "Android TV" which is what we named it.

I have the S. Had to go back to my Nexus Player. It is slower, but so much more stable ... The S has unusable Google cast . If you wanna cast, go for something else. (Weird pink, yellow shadows etc. )

Besides the fact that it freezes a lot. So much so I had to put it on a remote plug.

Also it does not sleep.... It's either off requiring button to wake up or always on. And then when always on it freezes ...

Both of my Mi Box's work great. I don't have the sleep bug on either one. They cast perfectly. And all my apps work. The only issue is EAC3 auto converting to AC3 doesn't work when it should be working. Hopefully next patch it's fixed.

It's a great little box. Well worth the money I spent on them over two years ago.

Jetstream has been working freaking awesome.

I can cast from my laptop or phone if needed(torrents mostly)
Was able to install perfect player and use my phone to just copy and paste all my URL info( Big plus cause that shit sucks)

So far it's been perfectly stable. No issues and I love that i can hardwired instead of just WIFI.

Would suggest as a in between. Shield is obviously the biggest winner but for the price point the jetstream is worth it and I can just take it back to walmart and swap if I had any issues with it.

Plus setup is easy since it's a androidbox, Can basically select all the app's installed that you want on your phone and transfer. Done and ready to go in five minutes.
