I've had the original MiBox3 in the spare room for a couple of years, and it's been pretty much faultless. I also have a Nvidia Shield, and the MiBox3 is like a good lower spec version of the Shield. No issues to report.. I primarily use it as a Kodi client, and it works great.
Wow guys thanks all for your comments, I think im not buying it anymore, the shield may not be for me here in Mexico is ridiculously expensive I can buy an Xbox one s or a PS4 slim for the same price.
if you can't afford, or don't want to afford, a shield. spend a little extra and get the Jetstream from walmart. much better product than the mibox
I just got the MiBox 3 for a bedroom TV, which is not 4K nor HDR. I wanted it for 1080p Netflix, Prime video, Plex client and IPTV. It has done everything I wanted without fail. If I wanted one for my main TV (4K OLED) I would get the Shield, but for what I needed it’s done its job perfectly.
I've had two mi boxes (still have one), and i simply would not recommend them to anyone, dont buy it, you'll only regret it.
Save a little longer and buy a shield.
They're both absolutely awful. Try a Chromecast instead.
My mind box s won't turn on anymore as of today had it since December I think. I think I might need a new plug not sure but I hear a high pitch sound coming from the plug when it's plugged in but getting no power.
Do not get these boxes, they are horrible even for such non demandant task as streaming. If you want cheap device get a roku or fire stick, or else get nvidia shield.
Depends how demanding a user you are and what actual Audio, Video and Apps you use.
That will be the determining factor.

The "S' would be the one to get simply for the extra buttons on the remote control.
I have Mibox 3 and it's a total crap since the Oreo update. I was waiting for Xiaomi to do something about it, but they doesn't seem to bother anymore. I'm looking for alternatives now.
I have the mibox 3 with no problems as you will read only the bad reviews but I enjoy use it so much . If I choose I'll go with the newest S for sure. as technically no difference .
