Use phone as Android TV

by kodatrololo

Hello,

Is it possible to use a phone (like Samsung Galaxy s10) as an Android TV box ?

I think I should be able to play any android games or watching any Netflix movie (4k) thought it.

What could be awesome is to have a phone stand, where you can put your phone inside, just like how the switch works.

While on the stand the phone will be in TV mode, so you will have the android TV menu on screen.

Yeah ReviewDork does a review on a similar setup using a samsung dex station. I'm not sure about having the Android TV OS on it. Maybe there's launcher you can use to mimic it. For the price of that stand though, you can buy a tv box haha.

I've looked into something like this before.

For example, I had an old Note 4 phone I thought would be cool to use as an emulator.

The part that made it weird was figuring out a good way to hook the phone to a TV successfully.

It really depends on the phone itself.

Try researching based specifically on your phone model if you want, but I think Chromecast will probably end up being the easiest and cheapest option.

TBH Android on your phone can do more than andoid TV.

I would recommend buying an nvidia shield. Its so Much better and worth the price. You can cast to it with your phone.

On my Huawei, I just use a usb-c to HDMI.. will just mirror screen to the tv. Or use a Chromecast for mirroring?
