I have a 50in 1080p TV that will not get replaced anytime soon...I want to cut the cord and get a TV box instead (setting up live streaming)

I root my android phone to do things like backup and ad blocking, but I heard it had locked boot-loader and not possible to get a root?
Could one live with no root mi box or there are better choice?
Mi box should work fine and if it doesn't, it's easy enough to exchange or return it.
I prefer the Nvidia shield though. The 4k Fire Stick is also an excellent choice.
I personally don't see a reason to root if you're just streaming video.
Most cheap Android devices running the certified, official Android TV OS will have locked bootloaders = NO Rooting possible.
ALL the cheap Android media players running the tablet Android OS - these days cannot do anything better than 480p Netflix due to their uncertified, non approved status. No Chromecasting either. They simply are not Google certified.
So choose what you want, a line has been drawn between the two.
If you want rooting and hacking stay away from cheap, Google certified Android TV OS devices.
Hi dont hesitate and get yourself a nvidia shield. Its the best android tv box on the market an regulary updated. Install Kodi and your goos to watch as many movies and tv shows you want. You can also play games, youtube, meteo, music, etc. I tried around 6 other android tv box and i wouldnt go back.
