New nvidia shield hopefully

I would hope for Dolby Vision and whatever is needed for youtube HDR.

Then maybe HDMI 2.1. The Shield had 2.0 well before anyone thought it was necessary, so why not 2.1.

https://www.xda-developers.com/nvidia-new-shield-controller-shield-remote/

Original XDA article only mentions possible new remote and controller in development from two new device code-names discovered in NVIDIA’s latest public source release. Trustedreviews article just added more speculations without any new information.

hopefully, but last time thy did this it was just the contoller and remote as the leak suggests.

not sure what new hardware could add at this stage, existing hardware is still leagues ahead of many boxes.

What's crazy is there doesn't need to be an upgrade. Could they include the Smartthings USB Dongle in the hardware? Yeah, probably. That's kinda it. It's still stupid powerful and doesn't really need much more upgrading.

WhySheHateMe

Hopefully its true, I'll move my current shield to the bedroom TV to make room for the new one. Its a wonderful device.

Just bought one a week ago.

On a side note, every time I turn off my TV (either via the Shield itself, or through Google Assistant, or using my TV's remote control) the shield turns it all back on like 30 seconds later. If I turn it back off within a couple of seconds it stays off, but if I take too long it will start up again. I don't want to turn off CEC becasue the reason I bought a chromecast enabled device like the shield is so I can cast stuff from my Google home and it will just turn on the TV, any fix for this without turning off CEC?

One other thing is my Chromecast Ultra that I replaced was able to play music from a home group and the shield cannot for some reason. Is that feature going to be added?

hmm this news site does the whole "this is what we know about X" type rumour roundup clickbait story, I wouldn't get your hope up especially as we have yet to see a chipset announced that would work in such a device

Dlinefivenine

The timing is in line with the new Nintendo Switch rumors. Either we're getting them mixed up or it makes sense to produce new chips for both for economies of scale - I believe it's the latter. And I'm excited! I think I'm ready to get into streaming gaming.

iChopPryde

Oh man I want the shield so badly, just waiting for the next sale to grab it!

twofaze

The Nintendo Switch is getting an update w/ a new processor. Now would be a good time to upgrade the Shield TV, as well.

TheMonarchsWrath

Heh...bought two shields around Thanksgiving, and just recently hooked one of them up in my new place. I guess a new version explains why they had such huge discounts. I will say though, the one I'm using seems to be the best streaming box I've ever used. Really responsive, nice simple remote, and all the major apps seem to support it.

foxswat

Maybe they can hide Dolby vision license fee to the cost of new media remote, as long as it’s paired to shield it unlocked Dolby vision to you

Hopefully they finally listened about a Nvidia branded air mouse ala the Rii MX6 v1..?
