I've got a Mi Box 3 and since the latest update (I've updated about 2 days ago) the 'Promotional Channels' keep enabling itself and showing "spotlight apps" on the homescreen, I think I have disabled it at least 5 times in the past 2 days and it's getting pretty annoying -_-
Just ranting a bit :p maybe someone has a way to actually disable it.
Same on my Sony Bravia A1, but only since a couple of days, before all fine.
Oh, good! I'm not alone. This has been driving me nuts with my Shield.
Same problem, don't mind disabling it once, but having it constantly re-enable itself is unacceptable. Exacerbated by the fact that the first promotional app is a visually jarring Japanese anime icon, trashing my tidy minimalist home screen. Nvidia Shield.

This is some seedy cash grab bullshit. Next tv won't be Android if this crap doesn't get disabled fast.
This is an issue that started in the past 10 days when a Google updated Android TV Core Services... this forces the promotion channel.
First off, I was able to confirm the Android TV Core Services app can be disabled which will not brick your unit and still provide the standard menu and such. The menu will vanish when the app is disabled and will reappear when you hit the menu button.
Second, looks like I found a possible glitch to disable Sponsored channel (first make sure you have all updates applied to your unit and apps): 1- remove updates to Android TV Core Services 2- go to menu and disable (-) the Sponsored channel 3- reinstall updates for Core Services 4- enjoy no ads again... so far they have not come back yet.
The other option is disable auto app updates and roll back updates on Android TV Core Services. You’ll have to update your apps manually but you won’t have those lame ass ads.
Will update as I see/learn more details.

Yea, I have the same problem with my Mi Box S. It is annoying as hell. It always comes back.
Same on Nvidia Shield. Strange how it started happening the day Apple announced their redesigned TV app with channels.
Install an alternative launcher on your MiBox and all will be good. I'm using HAL on mine.
Came here to ask about this, seems using a different launcher may be an option. any recommendations?
Really annoying me now too. Keeps reappearing after its been deleted from the home screen.
