Flashing Android onto Saphi TV

by chromedfoxes

Apologies if this isn't what you'd class as an Android TV question but if anyone can help me out surely it's r/AndroidTV!

From what I can tell Philips 6700 series and 7500 series share a processor. With that in mind I was hoping I could remove the terrible Saphi software on my 6700 and reflash it with Android TV. Does anyone know if that's possible? and if it is how I'd do that?

You'd need a dev to build a ROM for the hardware.

You can't. It's easier to go work and save money for a new TV.

Did you check if your tv is compatible with the hardware upgrade provided by Philips?

nezzmarino

The difference in image processors makes it almost impossible to build a working ROM for the 6700 series.

I have contacted Philips to ask if they will consider releasing android tv firmware update for their old Saphi tv's. They are currently producing new models with Android TV so this may be possible.

There is probably a 10% chance they answer and a 0.1% chance they do anything but he who never tries never knows.

Saphi is horrible...not even fast as claimed...virtually no useful apps

What is buffling...it is Linux based....so a migration to a fully fledged android is doable...but someone needs to put the time and work in it
