Sony, the ads are one thing, but why is the experience not unified?

by ShadowCVL

So, I have 2 Sony XBRxxX900e TVs, one is a 55 and one is a 65, I’ve loved these TVs for a little over a year and a half. I also have a pihole on my network.

About 6 months ago the 65 got the latest update that changed the UI for (in my opinion) the better. Now the latest update added the ad bar which when pihole intercepts those makes “home” take forever and a damn day to load which pisses me off... but...

I still don’t have the same update on the 55, why? I’ve manually checked for updates multiple times. Why would 2tvs in the same line not have the same ui? Now the 55 (which is in my office) loads muuuuch faster than the 65 because the damn ads are loaded after the ui.

Anyone have thoughts (other than “damn ads”)?

They started rolling the new update "Over The Air" (OTA) slowly like cellphone carriers do (to lessen the strain on their servers and to catch "issues" before everybody gets them😉). Guess what? There were "issues" and they halted OTA updates while they worked on them.

They seem to be starting back up again (slowly), but if you really want them you can download the latest firmware from the support site for your model and region to put on a USB stick and update manually.

There's no need for a Pihole if you use AdGuard DNS on your router 👍🏻
