HDHomerun live tv remote server with a client app that is compatible with Live Channels?

by lolento

Hello,

Can anyone point me to this direction? I'm looking for an HDHR server that has a client app that is compatible with Live Channels.

I know about TVHeadend.

Is there anything else that is simpler to setup?

Sorry, I'm not understanding what you're looking for. I have a HDHR and it doesn't need a server to watch TV, just the HDHR View App.

Not that I know of. Tvheadend didn’t work very well for me either. Seemed pretty beta.

There is nothing beta about TVHeadend! Spend the time and effort setting it up and forget about it!

Plex and Emby both support remote Live TV.

The official hdhr app for Android TV is compatible with live channels. You just need to have it installed on the device and add the source through the settings.

The Stream + will incorporate the HDHomerun channels into the Live Channels guide. You cannot access the HDHR DVR from Live Channels, however. You'll still need to go to the HDHR app for that and subscribe to their $35 a year DVR service.

Plex will let you watch HDHR channels remotely (phone via 4G, or at a friends WiFi). But it requires Plex Pass, which is $130. Or you can use JellyFin, which will do everything Plex does, but is 100% free (but still a beta product). Both of these options require a dedicated computer/server to re-encode the massive MPEG2 bitrate to H264, which makes it easier to stream over the internet.

I own an HDHomerun Prime, using Plex Pass, it allowed my sister in Ireland to watch local Seattle NFL games (at 2am lol).

Live Channels is the client app you use to watch TV when the HDHR is connected directly to your network. But when streaming live TV out to your phone or a friend outside your network, you use the Plex or JellyFin app.

Ended up with a TVHEADEND container in Docker setup.

Works but wish there is a simpler solution.
