New Twitch.tv app can make your home screen frozen.

by piiggggg

I got new Twitch.tv update about a few weeks ago, version 2.3.0. It looks good and little lag, but every time I turn on my TV again after using Twitch.tv app before (I even closed it before turn off) it froze at my home screen background, I'm pretty sure I can open other app but it only changes the background color, no image, button, information show up.

update: i was sent a ticket to twitch.tv support, no response yet.

update1: old twitch.tv app is dead, can't watch anything on

update2: old app may still alive, my isp blocked twitch

I had big issues with that app, yesterday I uninstalled it, because S0undTV got update with buffering settings.

My Mi Box S was freezing, sometimes when I tried to play VOD it rebooted my box, it was really bad.

Had similar issues, in the app when I fast forward a large stream it locks up completely. I need to reboot the entire mibox. I found clearing the cache and data worked, but it's still happened once since then.

I've actually reverted back to using the app on my Samsung TV, even though the navigation in that is terrible.

I have the same problem using a Xiaomi Box 3. My experience:

  • If you switch off the machine when the new Twitch app is in the foreground, you can use the box without any issue
  • VOD reboots the box randomly
  • When you switch off the box when the app is in the background and you switch on, the whole screen is "black". You can navigate and you can reboot the machine but you cannot see anything just a big black screen

Ah, it’s not just us then! We also find that YouTube won’t load any videos unless the app is closed via the app carousel. It just constantly throws an error

It’s probably the top drawer doing it, unfortunately even if you have recommendations off it’s meant to show what you’re currently playing there
