Hi, I’m posting here hoping someone else has experienced this and has some new ideas about it. I had a Sony 55x720e TV (non-android) working flawlessly for an entire year, and last week dead pixels came up, so I got a brand new Sony 55x805e with Android 6.5 I believe (terrified of updates that might break even more things). A 25ft CableMatters certified hdmi 2.0b cable is connecting my PC to the TV (could probably make do with 15ft though).
This same cable always worked on hdmi enhanced mode, with the 720e at 4K 60hz RGB full or hdr, but with the new 805e I'm getting black screen flicker / signal drops at random intervals, anything from 20 seconds to 6 minutes.
If I set the hdmi ports 2 & 3 to standard instead of enhanced, the problem goes away but it forces limited output range 15-235 instead of 0-255 full rgb... and no hdr, I've seen similar threads but no one ever has a definitive solution or explanation.
This is only happening to my PC (nvidia 1080ti latest 425.xx drivers for Win10); my ps4 pro sends full rgb and doesn't have the issue. So I don’t think it’s the TV. Unfortunately the ps4 pro hdmi cable is too short to test with the PC.
Could the long hdmi cable have been damaged over time ? everything I see points to the cable being unstable for the bandwidth, but I can't wrap my head around it working flawlessly for an entire year with the first TV if that's the case.
These certified hdmi 2.0b cables are very expensive in my country, so I’d appreciate any ideas or thoughts about this before I burn more money on a new one
Thanks.
It could be the cable coincidentally broke.
If it's a PS4 Pro could you test it on the longer cable?
What is the Hz set at for your computer?
Did you delete the TV driver after switching TV's?
I don't have too many ideas unfortunately.
