How do I make AndroidTV boot straight to the menu interface?

by exocyt0sis

Having a Philips 65PUS7601 running AndroidTV 8.0 Oreo, I'm overall pretty happy with it. One thing that bugs me, though, is that it automatically boots into the last used video source I've used. Since I never use it for TV reception, and since I only occasionally use an HDMI source, it's somewhat annoying - in 19 times out of 20, I start it to launch YouTube, HayWire or some other installed app.

All of this being said, is there any way to make AndroidTV default to its menu interface when turning on the device?

My Sony does the same thing and I don't believe there is any way to change this.

That said, this really only happens after a full boot, not after simply resuming from standby. Resuming from standby goes straight back to the last app in use (e.g. Netflix or YouTube).

How often do you boot/reboot your TV? One would think that pressing the home button and waiting for a second to switch back to the home screen would be the least of your worries after staring at 30-45s boot animation each time you turn on your TV.
