Options for replacement shield remote?

I recently got a ShieldTV and it has been working great but the volume slider on the remote is really annoying (especially when you have a toddler!). I was wondering what options are out there to replace it with something else. I do have two old Mibox remotes, can I make them work with the ShieldTV? I don't want to use a phone as a remote either.

Not looking for a complex remote with a bunch of options/buttons, but voice would be nice. Just want something cheap/simple/easy and all functions will work out of the box without having to mess with it.

The new Fire TV remote works with Shield TV.

You can disable the volume slider on the remote by going to settings —> Display & Sound —> Volume Control and turn on the CEC function.

The new firetv remote is amazing in every way except it doesn't support voice search on shield.

Not sure about the Mibox remotes. I can't find any indication that people have had success with them at all.

I've seen a lot of people recommending this remote . It'll take up one of your USB ports, but apparently it works very well.

Remotes I've seen recommended:

  • new Fire TV remote;
  • G20 remote;
  • G10 remote (doesn't seem to have volume buttons; there is a similar model that has them but I don't know the reference).
  • Q5 remote.

Not worth mentioning but I can't resist...the new Harmony Express has a simple 9 button layout and is only $250 🤣😂😆😭👎

I have no idea who they're target this remote toward. Sure, it's got great features and style, but $250 seems way too pricey for what you're getting.

Can you control the shield with say a Logitech harmony or something similar ? I have a harmony 650 which doesn't do BT but the harmony one should and thinking of buying it if it will allowe to complete get rid of the stupid shield remote which is a POS btw

batteries went dead on our shield remote, learned that our tv remote controls the shield. Such a happy surprise! Without any manipulation... just accidentally hit a button on the tv remote and it moved the cursor on the shield. Our tv and tv remote are samsung.

I couldn't deal with the Shield TV remote, too sensitive and not enough options. I went with the (Logitech Harmony Companion All in One Remote Control)

My Samsung TV remote works for me, although I'm one of the few who likes the shield remote.

Have you tried the shield tv remote app ?

I wonder why they chose that touch based design. I just want three buttons instead: play/pause, volume up, and volume down. I have to wake up the shield remote before I can use it to change the volume or pause.

New FireTV remote + buy a cheap as dirt PS3 eye camera. The remote itself is amazing and the camera will allow for voice commands to be used.
