How can I shutdown my external HDD at my android box?

by zonda_88

Hey guys, yes I read the subreddit description and I don't own one of the better devices like a nvidea shield. But maybe somebody can still help me here. My android box is a "eachlink h6 mini" which I am not using very often and I am till now quite happy with the performance.

My problem is that I attached a small mobile HDD which is getting its power through the USB port. However when I plug it in, it immediately starts the HDD whether the box is turned on or not. Same thing when I turn the box off, the HDD remains on.

Is there a way I can turn the HDD off in a proper way? I imagine just unplugging it isn't good for the device.

Thanks for the help. Greetings

Launch the "Storage" activity in the phone version of the Settings app (e.g. from adb or a short-cut creator app) and there's an eject button. This will definitely unmount the FS, but whether it will spin down the drive depends on the driver and enclousure.

Didn't find any software-based solution. What you can do is to use a USB hub with individual power switch for each port to power down a USB drive after ejecting it in settings.
