How to force close apps on Android TV 8.0

by Reave1905

I recently upgraded my Sony KD55XF8796 from Android 7.0 to Android 8.0 and I can't find how to force close apps when you're finished with them anymore?

On Android 7.0 I would just hold down the home button for a few seconds but now that just brings up the same menu you get from pressing the "apps" button on the remote. There's no option from this menu I can see to force close the app either.

Thanks

Shield TV (not sure if 8.0) I double tap home button. The select "X" under the app to close.

You have to go to the settings and apps/force stop.

I have a Sony tv but I never use any of the android TV stuff so this option might not be there but this is what I did on my Mi Box. Under developer settings, limit background applications to 1 or 0. Could also try kill application on exit. Not exact in the wording of these settings but this might point you in the right direction.

First, you need to install a button remapper app from Google Play. Then remap one of your buttons to open app switcher/recents. But there is a catch, you need to use a mouse to click X and Close all buttons on top. Since this switcher is not yet developed to use with a remote thats the only way. Hope this helps!

Hold home until the app list pops up. Highlight the app and hold the enter button until the context menu pops up. Info - force close.

It's not that intuitive, but you're only supposed to use it when an app is misbehaving, not all the time.

Looks like that we can't. ☹️
