It FINALLY happened everyone!!! Anyone who has had a Sony Smart TV with Android TV has known they are amazing with just 1 thing that kept it from being perfect. The performance on them has always been laggy due to a weak processor and not very much RAM.

If you see in the picture above the spec comparison of last year's 2018 model (F series) to the new 2019 model (G series). Sony has now significantly upgraded their processor from A57 architecture to A73 which has also resulted in 400mhz faster frequency speed. That's about a 36% faster processor than previous years processor in Sony TVs. A HUGE increase in performance.

Furthermore they DOUBLED the amount of RAM from just the standard 2GB to now 4GB. So the new Sony G series TV's even have more RAM than the Nvidia Shield (4GB vs 3GB). Of course the Nvidia Shield still has a better processor if you care about gaming on Android TV.

Now is the time to upgrade to a newer Sony Android TV if you been holding out. Still same gorgeous display with buttery smooth performance now. Navigating Android TV should be as smooth as a Nvidia Shield now.

You can get this new G series Sony 4K HDR AndroidTV for as low as $899 if you go with the 49 inch.

UPDATE: For those who are pessimistic about this really awesome news of huge spec bump in Sony TV's, maybe you should read 1 of the press release of this chip before portraying to others this isn't a big deal....

Any idea how the A9F stacks up here? I got one last week and Android is very smooth on it. I’ve been playing GTA in 4K via Shadow on it.

So, they kept the MediaTek chipset. I just .. don't understand this decision. Sony Android TVs are *AWFUL* because they are so slow and laggy, why haven't they gone for something more powerful?
