Recommended Android TV box with RCA/AV/Composite video output?

by bm_00

I am looking for an Android TV box to play back media hosted on our local PVR. Kodi and/or VLC will be used on the box as an interface. The content will primarily be SD 480p with the occasional but rare 1080p. However, the issue is the TV this is for is an old CRT with only RF and RCA/Composite inputs. The tv will eventually be upgraded but no where in the near future. I have seen some android TV boxes with an AV/Composite out option and am looking at purchasing one. I am just unsure which one seems to be the best fit. I know an S905 process is getting outdated but that what seems to be the most available. Than iv seen the rockchips but heard Kodi doesn't run the best on them. Will there be any noticeable slowdown/shutters/performance issues? Also, how bad is the picture quality(specifically text) over the composite. I am aware it is cruddy but how bad compared to a STB connected via composite. I am looking at a minimum of 2gb ram and 16gb Emmc which should be sufficient Remote does not overly matter as will most likely be making a custom one. Budget is around $50 with upper limit being $70 which I know is a low pricepoint .

I went through a similar situation with retired parents. Ended up just buying a cheap hdtv with HDMI. You can find 720p TVs for $70.

Try /r/AndroidTvBoxes

If your options are limited because of the RCA output, you can always get a HDMI to RCA Converter too.

TheRealSilverBlade

Far easier to buy a proper HDTV or receiver

minizanz

You cannot have analogue video and HDCP for almost 10 years now. You will not find one since the HDMI output would not work correctly without the DRM.

I don't know of any Android TV device with composite out.

If you plan to use Kodi primarily, you might try a Raspberry Pi and OSMC.

I am in a similar boat to connect a TV without a HDMI for my Mom.

After extensive research I ordered from Fasttech X96 MAX s905x2 4/64 for $55, still waiting for its delivery.

I would suggest you order from the site during the upcoming labor day sale where you would get 10 percent off.

After watching youtube video ,

I am assured that it works with

3.5 mm AV Male to 3 RCA Female or

3.5 mm Jack Plug to 3 RCA Adapter Audio Video Cable

Buy a new TV. You can buy cheap smaller HDTVs for as little as $70 at Best Buy. And you end up with a modern 720p TV that uses way less energy so your electrical bill will go down. Its a no-brainer.

I had the exact same problem with my parents' 25yr old Sony Trinitron TV, which my dad wants to take to his grave...The Ematic Jetstream 4K on sale at Wal-mart is Android TV with Google certification, integrated Chromecast, USB, optical, Micro SD slot, HDMI and AV ports. It works great with older CRTs such as the one I mentioned. It costs USD 70.

I just bought a Mecool m8s L. It was about 65$ but I am really happy with it. It has an av out which I use in my truck for the kids. There's a 2gb version that is a bit cheaper. If it's stock Android like the L I would get it. It does h265 and 4k even.
