Solid explorer represent
I jumped ship and use MiXplorer now. Love it! Has a great interface, works well on Android TV with my remote too. Very customizable; the dark theme just looks great. Full LAN browsing built in just like ES had.
The only downside is that MiXplorer isn't on the Play store, but it notifies you of updates and you can download the update and install the update from right within the app.
Edit: I stand corrected, there's a paid version on the Play Store now: MiXplorer Silver
So now insane people can finally stop recommending the "best file explorer" to android-noobs. :)

I don't know why everyone was so excited about ES file Manager! When I got my shield I searched different sites and
forums and ES File Manager was the MUST HAVE on all of them. At that moment I installed it, but started discovering
other software alongside as well and my favorite has become Total Commander https://www.ghisler.com/android.htm
I have also Mixplorer and X-Plor installed. But I only use Total Commander!

What's DO global scandal about?
It really is too bad that Google doesn’t have a file app for their TV OS like they have for their phones.
And nothing of value was lost.
PSA: Original developer now supports FX File Explorer, which is everything that people came to know and love ES File Explorer for.
