I have the Nvidia Sheild and when I press the home button (circle) twice, I get the multi-tasking menu and I can close apps that are behaving badly. I just picked up a Mi Box S for the bedroom and was wondering how can you do this on the Mi Box S (or can you at all?)

That's a customized recent apps list Nvidia built into Shield. The closest you can get on Mi Box is the stock recent apps list through a keyboard shortcut. Alt + Tab or Alt + Shift + Tab allows you to scroll through and close recently used apps.

You can probably use Button Mapper app to map that keyboard shortcut to a button combination on TV remote. Never tried that myself though.
