Thanks for the timestamped link. I went looking at the YouTube playlist, and the only Android TV video was more development related.
You can see the problem with Android TV in the audience. The seats are barely filled and the audience is lethargic. Pretty accurate representation of how developers feel about Android TV. The only app I feel I can take real advantage of channels is KODI, the zero cost open source app. Even YouTube and Play Movies are a bit of a joke when it comes to channels. The new interface was released January of last year.
It's hard to get excited about anything they announced knowing that a year and a half later developers probably still won't give a shit about using the features.
could Prime TV in the new app store be a little hint ?
Since when Sony is an OEM TV manufacturers ?
I love Android TV and I hope it does well but I'm hesitant and this briefing didn't do anything to alleviate that. Android TV is struggling. You either buy a several thousand dollar smart TV, a Nvidia shield (which most people don't know about), or a Chinese box that people are afraid of.
I think Google had got the OS and functionality down but they're still missing the strategy of how to actually get the device in homes. I was really hoping to hear about a new line of devices that support Android TV, maybe an official Google one like a Chromecast TV.
As much as I want Android TV to be successful I just don't know how they're going to win the market like this.
