USB to TCL U49P6046

by WalkByFoot111

Hello, first time posting at this sub.

I have TCL U49P6046 android TV. When connecting my 64gb USB to TV the media on USB can only be seen on TVs built in media player. When I open TV File Commander, the USB is visible there but without media, it's empty. Similar thing with VLC player, the media on USB just keeps loading.

The USB is in NTFS format at the moment. While formated to the exFAT, when connected, it shows error and no media can be displayed even on built in player. Didn't try FAT32 because the 4gb limit is not viable.

The USB is 3.1. It works fine when using on PC. I watched some movies via USB on TV before, but now this error persists.

I' ve googled this error many times, without any success. If anyone can suggest any solution, that would be helpful.

This is an issue with oreo 8.0 on Android TV...

.................................................................

Things you need to know before upgrading to Oreo:

  1. NTFS file system storages cannot be accessed by 3rd party apps
  2. Recent Apps Menu has been removed
  3. Leanback Launcher cannot be customised with own Channels

Note: all the above 3 problems have alternate solutions.

SOLUTION - Oreo NTFS Drive Mounting

  1. Install this app for mounting the ntfs drive - Microsoft_exFAT-NTFS_for_USB_by_Paragon_Software-FULL-v3.1.0.2_build_2030100.apk

  2. Install Total Commander explorer from aptoide store in tv. Only total commander explorer will be able to display ntfs mounted drive

Plug in your ntfs drive and open the Paragon software and give permissions and MOUNT the drive

Tap on Open Button to browse the drive from Total Commander explorer

Unmounting: Go to paramount app and tap on unmount button if want to remove the drive.

Caution: if u r trying to copy content from tv to drive or viceversa then do some tests with casual data instead of using ur regular drive. It may format ur entire drive based on some reviews. however if u r only reading data from drive then ignore this caution.
