Mi Box S 4K USB 3.0 Enthernet is not working

by Jozikelis

Hello everyone,

just bought this android box (MDZ-22-AB).

While using wi-fi internet speed is not fast enough to load 1080p videos, but internet speed is good enough (~50mbps on mobile while using wifi).

After it I decided to buy usb 3.0 enthernet adapter (Gembird USB 3.0 Gigabit LAN adapter). It works fine on my pc, but when I am trying to use it on my box it is not working:✓ I did try to enable USB to enthernet mode in developer settings.✓ I did try to disable USB debugging in developer settings.

There is written that this USB adapter uses RTL8153 Chipest. Should it be asix 88179 chipest or it should work with this one?

Do you have any ideas, what could I do?

Thanks!

Some usb dvices are not compatibles. It is becasue of its drivers. Realtek chipstes are not compatible . You should find an usb ethernet device with an asix 88179 chipset.

Return this and buy the Linksys adapter, I'm using it and it works perfectly. Also the wifi of the mi box is more than enough to stream 4k. You just have a bad wifi reception.

the ugreen 3.0 one that has additional USB ports works with this box as I own two of them and both work great.

ugreen gigabit ethernet/three USB 3.0 port hub works.

Gets ~177Mbps = 22.125 megabytes/second, because the USB port on the Mi Box S is USB2.0.

Enable Developer Settings (Click on Build in SYstem 5 times). Once enabled, go into Developer, scroll down to "Select USB Configuration" click, and select "RNDIS (USB Ethernet). Now you should be good to go.

Took me forever to figure this out!
