Google Photos Ambient Mode Working?

I have a Mi Box S and a SHIELD and have both setup in the Google home app to display my Google photos in ambient mode, but it has never worked until today. Photos are showing up perfectly on the Mi Box S, but they don't appear on the SHIELD. Both apps are up to date? Anyone have any idea when this functionality will finally come to the SHIELD?

I've been using photo gallery and screensaver app to get Google photos on my TV. Works alot better imo.

I forgot this existed. What the difference between ambient mode and backdrop on Android TV?

Install the Photo Gallery app. Works really well and can show videos in screensaver too.

Google Photos in ambient mode/screensaver used to not work on the MiBox. It works now?
