My 2tb Seagate format is exfat. But I checked it should work with my mi Box S. I tried sideloading ES file explorer but it's not working either.

Offload anything you haveom the hard drive somewhere else.
Plug the hard drive into the Mi Box and allow the Mi Box to format the hard drive itself.
See if that will work with Mac/PC
Maybe try to change file system to Exfat
