Any rumors of new Android tv hardware?

by TGGevan

I was looking at the nvidia shield for the past few months and the only thing that is stopping me from buying it is the age of the system. I don't want to buy a shield and then two weeks later a new system is announced. This is why I am asking.

Thanks

Well first and furthermore excuse me for repeating the follow but it's a fact:

Right now the Nvidia Shield continue to be the most powerful media player out-there to my knowledge.

I do understand your predicament but this has been an ongoing rumor since forever.

I don't know if you are aware, there are two releases of the Nvidia Shield TV (2015 and 2017) but the main hardware it's the same.

There has been constant rumors about a new hardware but the most accurate one are for a new controller and a new remote, nothing solid about a future version of the Nvidia Shield TV.

Good luck

There are rumors of the shield getting an upgrade, check the /r/nvidiashield there was FCC filings that was found for a remote. The shield is bit old at the moment and I won't be surprised if they did an upgrade with Dolby vision hopefully. But that been said, it's still ahead of the game.

Any info would be on the front page of the subreddit, anyone who says they know would definitely not know. The 2017 model dropped without a hint. If you want to wait, then wait. If you can't, then you likely won't regret your purchase. There's not a whole lot missing from the current model when it comes to features so I can't imagine I'd throw my 2015 model in the trash for any reason if NVIDIA released a new Shield TV in 2019.

Still rocking the original Shield and I have no complaints about the hardware.

There's the recent news about AirTV 2 coming out in July. Also I recently bought the $70 Jetstream from Walmart for a secondary TV and think it's a very solid device. My main TV has a Shield which is obviously great but you might find Jetstream worth taking for a test drive.

joke's on you I guess. Could have got it months ago.

remember, as the others said, Shield has no Dolby Vision

Edit: also watch out for 4k YouTube hdr, they are changing codecs not sure what the shield is supporting

I wonder if Apple would support AirPlay on a new Android TV box? They will start implementing it on several TV OS' now, including selected TVs with Android TV. Would be cool to have an Android TV box with Dolby Vision, vp9.2 and airplay support. Unfortunately, closest to this now is the mi box
