I'm considering on getting myself a Mi Box S, however, I'm trying to confirm if the Mi Box S supports large external HDD, 1TB etc. The HDD will be used to play content from and will not be necessary to write to the HDD from the Mi Box S.
I have done some research but could not find a definite answer. Thanks in advance.
Depends what you need, if you format any drive as internal storage all of them work, if you want to connect it to a pc or Mac or whatever, then unfortunately you are out of luck. Tried 5 different (various manufacturers, sizes and technologies) drives with ntfs not a single one would get detected normally. Jetstream 4K worked out of the box on the other hand perfectly with every one of them.
It does support large drive. But drive compatibility and power consumption can be hit & miss. Some people have to use 3rd-party OTG driver to get their external drive recognized. Some have to use a powered USB hub.
I can get a Rosewill USB enclosure with a laptop drive to work with Mi Box without using powered USB hub. But my 1TB portable G-Drive won't work most likely due to insufficient power supply (I can hear the drive repeatedly spin up and down). If you have a particular USB drive in mind (brand & model), maybe someone can confirm if it works or not.
