Youtube for Android TV updated

by novcze

2 days ago Google released update for Youtube for Android TV and here are notes:

• Reduced CPU usage
• Improved Network throughput
• Added Opus support
• Reduced frame drops on some platforms
• Resolved crashes that can occur in some instances
• Various other platform improvements

I can say the improvements are certainly visible on Sony 55XF7596, 4K/60fps is watchable without periodic stutters.

I wonder if this fixes the audio pop I get when moving ahead in a video. I'll have to check when I get home!

Wow, this update almost fixes 4k 60fps HDR on my KD7505 (ATV-2, Oreo 6.6510).

It's no longer constantly dropping frames every few seconds, but it's still frequently dropping frames after fast cuts or during pans - just far fewer and far less frequent.

Those slow and relaxing nature drone videos are now beautiful and buttery smooth. But add some faster pans and cuts and the framedrops can still take you out of the experience.

It's so close to actually being good, I hope this won't be the best we can get.

So Youtube crashing recently wasn't just my old Shield TV having problems?

The most retarded thing about the app is that when you search for something it doesn't use the system virtual keyboard and instead you're forced to use their own slow keyboard to type.

Is that changed?

Is this version 2.06.06?

I installed this on my Sony TV and it seems to be laggier than before for me with the patch notes stating 'Reduced Memory Usage and Stability Improvements'

Is there an APK I can sideload?
