How to go back to Android TV Launcher

by ultimate-tester

I just did the first update after buying my Android TV end of last year. Apparently Google decided it was a good idea to drop Android TV Launcher in favor of Android TV Home. I don't like the new design at all. Is there a way to change back to Android TV Launcher?

After many years of Uninstalling updates, i finaly accepted this new youtube app for androidTV. My main problem remains, it is not possible to see the full title of the videos.

It looks like Android TV Launcher is available on the Play Store. Not sure how well it will work as I'm on mobile, but it might be worth trying.

On some systems you can go into "settings" and then "home" and switch between installed launchers. A restart is then usually necessary.

If you're talking about the new Oreo update, then you can't go back to the Nougat version of the launcher. You'd have to downgrade back to Nougat and miss out on every security patch since it was released.

Just use it. You'll get used to it. You shouldn't be spending a whole lot of time in the launcher anyway. Just open your streaming app and watch your videos.

You can use ADB.exe on a Windows computer to delete the Leanback Launcher from your Android TV device, including a Shield or MiBox. Just be sure to have another launcher installed before you delete Leanback. You will need a double male USB cable and you will need to be familiar with using the Windows command line. I think there are versions of ADB for other OS's as well.
