Should I buy....?

by partytime71

I have a shield, use it all three time, on our main tv, and love it. I have a 125" projector we don't use a lot, but like to watch movies on it. We have a 4k mibox that has apparently given up the ghost. I can't get it to show a picture via HDMI, but the light on the front comes on. But no signal to the projector. (A fix for this would be nice).

Anyway, should I get another mi box , or a fire stick, or something else? I love the shield, just thinking I'd rather take a step down to save some dough. I'm fairly tech savvy. Need to be able to install Kodi.

Jetstream 4K Android TV box from Walmart. Stay away from FireTV.

Buying another Mi Box will allow you to stay in the Android TV user interface and Android TV playstore.

Buying an Amazon Fire TV would be a great choice for someone willing to be locked in to a proprietary user interface that nobody uses except Amazon. I can't recommend the Fire TV to anyone that is already using the real Google certified Android TV interface especially in the case of someone already having a Shield with the Android TV interface.

You can't gowrong with an Amazon FireTV. I have two and they are well worth the money. The Amazon Firestick seems to be very popular.

First thing I'd try is see if you can boot the MiBox into recovery. Hold the OK and Back buttons while you boot it up, and see if you can get the recovery menu on your screen. If you can, go ahead and do a wipe/factory reset on it. Sometimes issues like this can be caused by a software setting gone wrong, and a wipe will fix it.

If that doesn't help and you really can't get anywhere with it, the Mibox S is fine. Walmart also has another device, the Ematic Jetstream, which is pretty much the same hardware but has more connectivity options.
